Islam R Us, Too
In these recent days since the attacks on New York and the Pentagon, I have been listening to all our news, and reading editorials and stories from the Islam world, primarily from Afghanistan and Pakistan, and what I have picked up on is this: there is a cry going on that says We (mainly, the United States) are trying to wipe out the Islam World. They are saying we "cannot stand" to see the Islam world grow and prosper. I also see that almost every writer is saying "they" (whoever they are in those cases, but seemingly indicating the National leaders) do not condone terrorism (their definition of it, of course) in any manner. I applaud their stance against the killing of civilians and other related "terrorist" acts, but the fact that they think we are "out to get them" worries me to no end! That is JUST NOT TRUE! As everyone, anyone knows, the United States, as well as all other Western civilizations, is made up in part of millions of Islams. They are free to study, pray, and celebrate as their faith decrees. We, as a civilization, are delighted to have this mixing of cultures, of viewpoints. And we are just as delighted to see the growth and prosperity of any of their "homelands." Any conflicts between these nations and ours is certainly not due to the fact that they are Islamic, or Muslim, or anything else of a cultural/ideological basis. Those conflicts, down to the very last one, I'm sure, are due to our view of another nation's stance on Human Rights (they don't give them to all Humans) and/or their aggressive posture towards other peoples (or even their own people). Of course, anyone can look at some of the acts by us and others that do not fit this model, and We (the people of the United States) will agree whole-heartedly. We (most of us) don't like many of the things going on with China, for instance, yet some concessions have been made to them. And We (again, many of us) don't like the relationship that seems to be happening with Isreal, in view of their aggressive "mad dog" stance toward their region. Many of us are "fighting" for change on both these fronts, but certainly not by killing anyone. There are better ways!
