It should be no surprise to anyone who knows me that I am no fan of Big Business (Big Bidness, in Texas), the Corporate Mentality, or the Shareholders vs. Employees arguments justifying the many absurdities of actions/decisions of The Fat Brass. (See my about us header/info page.) So, was I surprised, was I glad, when all these recent attentions were focused on how The Screws Will Turn?

Was I surprised? Yes, a little. I mean, most of us know this has always been the way of the High and Mighty aloft in the ozone of the business world. Government knew it. The Press knew it. Employees, stockholders, the brass themselves knew it. So to see it all of a sudden brought to the Front did surprise me. What was the motivation, the incentive? Was it only that We (the Royal We, as in all the little folk) were finally tired of it to the extent that someone finally noticed? We have always been tired of it. Why hasn't anyone noticed before this?

IMHO (In My Honest Opinion), and in a word - GREED.

No one wanted to cut off the Hand(s) that feed them, and these hands were feeding a lot of people!

(A note here - It surprises me that the Press took so long to bring this issue to the Front. Were they being fed by these hands, too? Maybe some, but not all, surely. More likely, these Hands were keeping the uproars down and out of public light through other means, and it would have taken a lot of investigative journalism to talk to the vast numbers involved in any one action previously. I suppose the recent events brought so many into the Light that reporters and editors all of a sudden had enough sources at hand to make a believable story. That is another of my pet peeves - the plight of the "little man" can be so insignificant even to the Press, but that is for another time.)

And, it seems (again, IMHO), many of the Takers of this Feed were those in Government. They knew about it, but did little to curb it. In fact, they promoted it in the form of reducing regulations so as to leave a "freer market" in which American Business could more "freely" operate. This reduction of Watchful Eyes didn't help the Market as much as it helped the Feeding Hands. After all, those regulations were originally put there for some reason.

Now, all of a sudden, we see LOTS of guvment types running to catch up with this hay wagon. Bush is a good example (if not the BEST example!) With the LimeLight now focusing on the Feeding Hands, the previously gluttonous Mouths are trying to clamp shut and mutter their moanings of malcontent. They also don't want us to be able to see the Feed tucked away in the corners of their cheeks. They will try to swallow that as discretely as possible and then deny it was ever there. This also in the name of greed - greed for the votes of the little people, who are all of a sudden very numerous and glaring. This greed now overshadows the greed for the Feed Bucket. They realize that if they can just get reelected, somehow stay in office, there will always be more Feed, in some form or fashion. But if they're out, they lose it all.

But, whatever the previous situations, maybe now things will be a little easier to live with. Maybe now the sights are focused on some target appropriate to enhanced life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness for the majority of Americans. Let's hope so.

Was I glad? Yes.
